Monte… girl. I loved hearing you talk about your dad and how you saw him evolving near the end of his life. I have a near identical upbringing as you. For so many years, once I recognized that what happened to me was in fact abuse, my resentment at that abuse became like my entire personality. So much so, that when decades later I began to see changes in my dad, and I began to forgive in my own way, I felt like I couldn’t talk about the good because it would negate the pain and no one would take me seriously. Anyway - THANK YOU for talking about your experience. I love knowing we are so not alone.

Oh Mormon apologetics is a whole THING! And it’s sponsored by the leadership in salt lake. Mormonism is fundamentalist at its core. Always has been. It is convinced that it is the ONLY whole and complete, capital T Truth in the entire world.

Been listening to Monte for a long time, now (years?). I personally will not belong to any organization willing to accept me as a member, as Samuel Clemons is credited with quipping. But I did buy the SBL Study Bible, which I actually read.

The circle jerk that is Mormonism fascinates me. My mother, who is 95.5 years old was very insistent we (4 girls) not be critical of other people’s religions. She was always polite when the Mormons, Jehovah Witnesses, what have you, came to the door, offered them a cool drink and sent them on their way. I followed suit.

I’m almost 69 years old, knowing what I know, not just from what I’ve learned from Monte, but other women who’ve been able to survive deconstruction, I will no longer graciously extend anything to them other than my middle finger and advise them to run away as fast as they can.

Smart! I was raised Mormon and survived deconstruction and getting out and the amount it has in common with IBLP and all these fundamentalist Christian nationalists is wild. Because we were taught that we are were nothing like them. But they are all the same. Which is why it's so wild to me that Mormons get labeled as not real Christians. Like it’s the same brand of Fundamentalist Christianity. The teachings are only shades of gray different.

Old woman here. Living your life not willing to grow and accept what is not yours to choose is a waste and a shame.
