Pardon Reality Winner. Now.
About the petition to have President Biden grant Reality Winner a pardon...
A few weeks ago, I talked a lot about the likelihood of Trump pardoning the January 6 insurrectionists. Despite the fact that there is a surprising amount of (muted) pushback from the Republican party, it is looking incredibly likely that he is going to grant pardons to some of the least deserving people imaginable.
This is going to include people who attacked and contributed to the deaths of Capitol police, while also levying death threats against sitting members of Congress. Or as Trump would put it - our best and brightest! The MOST deserving of a pardon! Even if they already served time for crimes THEY PLEADED GUILTY TO.
But while we’re on the topic of pardons, let’s get serious for a minute about the potential of President Biden pardoning somebody that is not currently incarcerated. A real American hero who is a fan of the three D’s: democracy, dogs, and dwhistleblowing. If you want to talk about “healing the nation,” and doing the right thing, then it would behoove us to consider that we need to, once and for all, pardon Reality Winner.
Reality Winner - YES OUR GIRL - we love her. Reality Winner, the former NSA officer and decorated Air Force veteran who blew the whistle back in 2016 on Russian interference in federal elections. She told the truth - and she got put in jail for it. She’s out now - and she deserves to have her name cleared especially as we continue to fight for free and fair elections.
When I saw the movie Winner, you know, the movie ABOUT Reality Winner, I posted a TikTok praising the film, and her, and she personally wrote me saying, and I quote… “thank you so much, big fan.” I think I died. I may be dead. I think I peaked and died and this is Purgatory, only better, because it came with a compliment from Reality WINNER.
“But V,” you may be asking. “Why should we pardon Reality Winner?”
Well, disembodied voice, I’ve got you covered. Here are the facts:
The punishment did NOT fit the crime for Reality. Not only did she never put anyone’s life at risk, she never tried to embolden any of the United States’ enemies. She was prosecuted under the Espionage Act - a rare charge that, truth be told, everyone hates until it’s convenient not to. And in the initial Trump years, Reality’s prosecution was meant to act as a warning shot for any future leakers. She was made an example of - and nothing more.
Reality Winner has already done her time, and whatever mistakes she made, she learned from them. It’s a part of her life she wants to move on from so she can focus on more important things, like trying to embolden the youth of today, or hang out with her dogs.
A pardon from President Biden is Reality’s last best chance of being granted the freedom she’s worked so hard for and rightly deserves. And there’s a precedent for whistleblowers and truth tellers receiving pardons, such as when President Obama commuted Chelsea Manning’s sentence.
Without a pardon from President Biden, she faces the risk of being tried again under a Department of Justice that is planning to try cases based on politics rather than the justice it is intended to protect.
This is why it’s important for you to sign the Pardon Reality Petition.
We need 30,000 signatures by January 13, the Day of Action, to show President Biden there’s a growing movement for the pardon of Reality Winner. As of me writing this, we’re about halfway there! We can get there, but we need your help to get there!
Signed!
Signed, thanks for sharing and caring!
