On the federal cuts made by the DOJ - particularly Court Appointed Special Advocates (aka CASA) - and how Donald Trump may have been targeting an immigration advocacy group instead.
Plain and simple- casa is Spanish for house or home. We know how he feels about anything related to that, so he cut it because the name. They didn't even bother to read what it's for. Trump - Casa? That sounds like illegal immigrants- cut it.
I am a professional grant writer for nonprofits, his attack on congressionally-appropriated funding requires greater oversight. A working and independent congress would have prevented this--instead we are saddle with a House full of Republican sycophants. It appears that the number of nonprofits harmed by this willy-nilly "cutting" of funds has no real plan or pattern. Sure, some of it is based in revenge, but to most of us impacted by us, it has very little real structure. It is targeting what the pinheads in DOGE believe is "free" money. It is far from that. The public needs reporters like you to inform them about arduousness of the federal grant system and how wide the funnel is at the grant application phase, and how narrow it is when it comes to being an awardee. After that is the monthly reporting and accounting. If you want to know how it works, I would be more than happy to tell you.
I remember my college professor who told me about CASA/GAL and how it’s changing kids lives. I see that with the same acronyms it could get mixed up, but those are things that should be checked before anything is done to either of them! I do not think anything is a “accident”. I take it for exactly what it is. Causing harm onto people who are different than them and don’t agree with them.
I am a CASA and I left messages with my reps this weekend AND sent physical letters today. This is devastating for our program. Our local CASA is invaluable to our local DHS, AAL’s, and judges, and to children in our community. We have a great relationship with everyone who works on cases and I can personally attest to the value we add.
This literally made me cry. As a child who's only advocate was my mom, cuz she believed me, in 1970. I cheered when I learned about CASA for kids. I can't tell you how devastated I am to not be a billionaire so I could replace their funding.
Thank you for bringing attention to this and providing the letter verbiage! I just wrote to my reps using that letter you provided using ResistBot. Text SIGN PYRTIZ to 50409 or share: https://resist.bot/petitions/PYRTIZ
Done! I've emailed Tommy Tuberville, Katie Britt, and Dale Strong.
Hopefully, Alabama will have some Democrats running in the upcoming elections.
I urge my fellow Alabamians who are ashamed of this current administration's vile acts to speak out and contact their representatives. We must make them sweat and realize their jobs are on the line. Vote them out!
Thank you for bringing this to light, V. I’m a CASA staff member in the Midwest. My program is not affected (yet?) but many in my state are floundering. Unconscionable.
He is a monster. There are no accidents.

Thank you. Sorry for the typos. I am sick with a nasty cold.
Thanks and cheers.

This coming from the crowd that SCREAMS Laken Riley in our faces and even passed acts about it, is insane. So much for protecting the children.

Thank you for providing both the link and a full text letter. I wrote to all 3 of my reps!
